Shem

2446 BC – 1846 BC

Son of Noah — listed first among the three brothers for his covenantal prominence — who survived the Flood aboard the ark. Through Shem's line came Abraham, the nation of Israel, and ultimately Jesus Christ. His name means 'name' or 'renown,' and the term 'Semitic' derives from his name. According to the genealogies, he lived 600 years — long enough to outlive Abraham himself.
