Despite the city's wickedness, Lot was regarded as a righteous man who was 'tormented in his soul' by the lawlessness around him (2 Peter 2:7-8). Angels rescued Lot and his daughters before God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, though his wife perished looking back — a warning Jesus himself later referenced (Luke 17:32).
